DAY 6 OF 365: WALKING THROUGH THE WORD DEVOTIONAL

Believe me, we will regret less, lose less, fail less when we start letting God lead us…

Title: GOD CAN LEAD YOU TOO

‘And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, “This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left”.’

Isaiah 30:21

Some young people do ask me from time to time how they can come to the place of being ‘spoken to’ or ‘led by’ God. They hear people talk about this, their pastor, their leaders, friends, family, but they don’t even know where to begin in making this a reality in their own lives. I have personally had to caution some out of the idea that God is distant or that God just speaks to only a select few.

Today, I want you to know that God wants to lead you in all that you do. By this, I don’t just mean in spiritual things alone but also in other areas, marriage, finance, business, family, relationship, studies, etc. The Bible says we are truly children of God, who have been established in Him, if we are being led by His Spirit.

To be led by God is something believers should build their lives on. It means to have God coordinate the affairs of our lives. It means to follow after His authority and not our intelligence. The Bible says when we commit our ways unto Him, He will direct our paths. In other words, He will lead us when we submit our ways to Him.

God wants to lead you everyday. The 23rd Psalm calls Him the Shepherd. And one thing a Shepherd does is to lead. A true Christian is one who has given his/her life to the Lord and is willing to have God direct them in whatever they do. Believe me, we will regret less, lose less, fail less when we start letting God lead us.

How can we be led?
First, I’ll recommend the book ‘How you can be led by the Spirit of God’ by Kenneth E. Hagin.
Let me then say this, God is not tied to one system or pattern when it comes to leading His children. That means, He can lead us in whichever way He feels we can understand better, and also according to the level we are in at the moment.

But, the most important thing about how God leads is that every leading goes in line with His word. God will never lead you contrary to what He says in His word. For instance, He can’t lead a man to go and steal or to commit murder. This is because that’s not consistent with His Word.

Most believer’s are waiting for spectacular directions from God and they miss Him. You see, God can be spectacular if He wants to be, but some times, He likes to lead us like a Shepherd, gently. The fact that something isn’t spectacular sometimes doesn’t mean it isn’t spiritual. And the fact that something is spectacular sometimes doesn’t mean it is spiritual. You must learn the difference.

You can be led through the inner witness. What is the inner witness? I don’t want to call it a feeling. This inner witness is a pull on our inside beyond the normal. It can just be a certain unsettlement within us towards something we have done, are doing, haven’t done, should be doing or shouldn’t do. This is the most basic and common way God leads His children. Don’t forget, it is always in line with the Word.

Sometimes, I want to go somewhere or board a vehicle and suddenly, I just get restless on the inside, like there is a weight put on my heart. Right there, I step down from making that decision and immediately, the burden is gone. That’s an inner witness. This has saved me from accidents before. I didn’t hear any voice, just this ‘pull’ on my inside, and I followed it, and it delivered me.

You see, you have the Holy Spirit of God in you and He wants to guide you in all your ways. He will never lead you contrary to what God says. In fact, one of His major purpose on earth is to teach/lead you on what to do. Do you now realize that you have not been taking advantage of your greatest partner on your inside?

I’ve seen believers look to fair weather, green grasses and bright sunshine to make their decisions and they end up failing and frustrated. But if you let Him lead you, sometimes, it might just be through the valley of the shadow of death. Yes, but if you continue to follow Him convincingly, you’ll meet the table prepared for you in the presence of your enemies. That’s how God does His things. Don’t box Him.

There are other ways God speaks and leads us as His children. But all of them follow His Word. Anything outside His Word isn’t of God. Don’t forget that. But, one can ask, “How can I know it’s His word?”
It’s simple, be a student of the Word.

Being led by the Spirit means being led by His Word. The Spirit bears witness with the Word. God can use people to give you counsel and confirm His leading in your heart. But, listen, you are the one He wants to lead. Stop looking for who God will speak through to lead you. God wants to lead you Himself. You have to check the following:

  • Submit yourself to learn His ways through intimate fellowship with His word (How much time and attention are you investing to grow in the Word of God?)
  • Make up your mind to obey. We will find it difficult to hear when our hearts are always set on our ways. God is looking for hearts that are willing and broken enough for Him to lead. And most times, it is not that He isn’t speaking, it is just that we aren’t listening.
  • Be a person of prayers. Develop the habit of spending quality time with Him as you pray in spirit. You can do this either before or during the day. You can do this on the go, in the car, the office, on the street, in that board meeting, in that exam hall. Be a person of prayer, you’ll always know what to do.

You’re led to victories by the Holy Ghost in you. You have no regrets. You’re bold because you’re sure He leads you. You’re a student of the Word. You love to study and pray. You love to confess and speak Christ everywhere. You are not confused. You have light. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Today, listen and be led!
