Title: DO IT YOURSELF
You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally. I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.1 Corinthians 9:24-27 The Message (MSG)
In my short Christian walk over the years, one thing I’ve learnt is that another man’s conviction can’t carry, not for long. It might for a while but soon it will wear out. Why, because it is another man’s and not yours. Reading, listening or watching the Word taught by another are a great way to grow but if you don’t discover and encounter those truths yourself, they won’t bring any lasting profit/impart to your life. You’ve got to commit to practical Christian living in order to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. That’s what I’m talking about today.
What’s your plan for your spiritual development. I’m not talking about serving in the church, there is a place for that. But what are the elements you’ve put in place to help you generate fresh energy for the Christian race everyday (I hope you remember that we are in a race? Our opening text proves that)?
How much firewood and fire are you putting into your prayer place (your prayer altar)? How much time and concentration do you invest to know this God for yourself through personal time with Him just by yourself apart from cooperate fellowship?
If we liken this Christianity to a race, check how you’re running. Are you napping, claiming to be saved but doing nothing as regards sustaining and manifesting your profession? Are you in top condition? How alert are you to inconsistencies in your life when they rear their ugly heads? Are you sloppy, allowing just about any or everything into yiur life in the name of “God loves me and will save me at the end?” What are you doing? Did Jesus die for this?
You’ve got to do this yourself. I may help you grow but I cant grow for you. I may provide you food among other nutrients to aid your growth but until you apply them into your system, exercise yourself, you’ll be stunted and may die. Jesus called us to a practical “going” life.
Arrange a schedule today and make a resolve, fully depending on the Holy Ghost, for your spiritual future. Have a plan for it. Shut out some associations if that’s what it will cost. There is no friend worth the price of my soul, I tell you. There is no movie, family, money, opportunity worth the price of my eternity. I’m ready to lose them all to gain Christ. – Phil. 3:7-15
I ask you today, are you going to do it yourself trusting in the Lord for help?
