DAY 31 OF 365: WALKING THROUGH THE WORD DEVOTIONAL

In the midst of that darkness and falling, you can rise again… Even in the midst of the darkness, God is the light you need.

Title: ARE YOU SURROUNDED BY THE DARKNESS? YOU NEED THE LIGHT

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me

Micah 7:8

I so love Micah 7. This scripture speaks volumes, a combination of a painful cry and a bold declaration of faith born not out of pretense but rather out of an understanding of who God is. Old Testament or New Testament, men overcame as a result of their understanding of who God truly is and not what era they were born.

Most people boast about being born into the New Testament/Covenant (which is better) but their lives are short of results compared to the “men of old”. Again, I’ll say this, it’s not just based upon the era in which you were born but rather your understanding and experience of who God truly is.

Micah did not deny his surrounding darkness, his pains, his hurts and disappointments, his shame and fears, those things which you’re familiar with as a child of God in a wicked world. But Micah declared something I want you to see today. He declared Light, he declared “God”.

I don’t know what you’re going through right now that seems like a darkness to you and like a “falling again and again”. I want you to know that only light can drive out darkness. You are not hopeless. It seems you’re being mocked right now, you’re not hopeless. In the midst of that darkness and falling, you can rise again. You can win again. You can live again. You can shine again. Why, light always wins over darkness. Even in the midst of the darkness, God is the light you need to shine and rise.

How do you do this?
Jump into God’s Word and lay hold on His promises.
One of the greatest challenges of most believers today is our inability to stay with God’s word. We want someone to do it for us. Beloved, there are many things people can’t do for you. Studying the word and knowing God for yourself is one of them. You see, faith comes/grows via exposure to the Word of God -Rom. 10:17

Peter calls God’s promises that we must hold onto a light that “shines in a dark place”. If you lose it, you’ll be consumed by the darkness – 2Peter 1:19. Your grief is not the best thing to hold. Neither is your fear, your pain, your disappointments, your ambition or even someone’s promises. The integrity of God is worth depending on. His promises are sure and will come through for you. Give time and attention to studying and staying with the Lord via fellowship with His word. It will give you hope when there is no reason to hope. It will heal you and fill you with joy. It is light, health and food. -John 1:1-5

Kill those reasons or alternatives Satan gives you against the Word. Pick it up and give it your attention. The Word is your light. In the darkness, you need it. You’re not hopeless. God is your light in that darkness, face Him now!

Look up at the opening text again and confess it over yourself throughout today.
God bless you.
