Titles: CHOICES: THEY ARE ACTIVE, NOT PASSIVE
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”James 2:26
A choice is not yet a choice until it is followed through. It goes beyond just making good decisions, but in being able to follow them on through. Deciding to serve God is good, for instance. Deciding to do well and live right is good. In fact, it is what God wants from you. But, until you actually ACT on these things, that decision is only as good as wishful thinking. And wishful thinking is void of power. But choices followed on through has great power in its effect.
Don’t forget, life is a journey and each day that we live on this earth, we do so as travelers on its path. From the day we are born up till the day we die. The pursuit of purpose sets us on the move and our choices give us bearing; and those bearings determine our ultimate destination as well as our experiences down the path.
(1st Chron. 4:9-10) Jabez did something. He chose to rise up and say, “I refuse to die a Sorrow Maker. I refuse to be a Sorrow Maker indeed, even though that’s my name, it is not my destiny. I was created to bring joy and not sorrow. I chose not to settle with this. I chose to stand for something and be relevant in my generation.” And he didn’t just make up his mind and stop there. He went further and acted, how, by prayer and by faith. Because we hear, “And God granted unto him that which he requested.” God always responds when we pursue, not when we go in the opposite direction.
“Jabez called on the God of Israel…” He could have called to someone else, but he choose to call on the God of Israel. And how did we know that’s what he chose? His choice was manifested by what we saw him pursuing. And yes he got what he pursued.
“And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren…“(1 Chron. 4:9)
“And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez…” (1 Chron. 2:55)
See how this guy got his change. He went beyond thinking, desiring and wishing. And see how God made that pay off. From an ordinary nobody, a cursed one at that, he became a city; an authority to be reckoned with.
In order to have an amazing journey every day, you must make an active choice now. I wouldn’t be telling you this if you couldn’t do it. Have you ever wondered why you have willpower and animals don’t? It’s because God made you and put in you what you’ll need in order to navigate each path as you journey through life with purpose.
Daniel 1:8. “And Daniel purposed in his heart…”
Thank God for willpower. Thank God for the great strength, not simply by sheer will but by oneness together with God.
Start shaping and determining your experiences as you travel this journey. Let this be your testimony: that you paid a great price in making the right choice and you are following it on through to the very end. Learn to stand out. Stand IN THE WAY – Jer. 6:16.
I choose to be different. I choose to stand out. I will walk my talk and do it every day. By the Holy Ghost, I’m strong and will not be unfruitful. In Jesus name, amen.
