DAY 47 OF 365: WALKING THROUGH THE WORD DEVOTIONAL

A great journey or change in life will not happen simply because you and I wish it so. Change will happen only to those who pursue their desires tenaciously and go for the results they desire

Title: CHOICES: THEY ARE ACTIVE, NOT PASSIVE (2)

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also

James 2:26

Poor Jonathan
Permit me to use the Biblical character, Jonathan, to further explain why I say choice is active and not passive: Jonathan was the son of King Saul, the first king of Israel after the era of the Great Judges (1 Sam. 13:1-2). Jonathan was a very wonderful friend and covenant brother to young David (1 Sam 18:1-4, 19:1-7, 23:16-18, 31:2). He saved David’s life, risking his own in the process. He believed in David and chose to side with the anointing upon David as the next king of Israel even though by birth, that was his right. He pledged loyalty to David’s anointing even over his father who at that time was still ruling. This is a true friend, don’t you think so too? Such commitment hardly come by these days, you know.

But, do you know that this same Jonathan never lived long enough to witness his dear old friend, David, sit on the throne? He died alongside his father, Saul, the self-proclaimed arch-enemy of David. What happened? He made a choice and a perfectly right one at that. But he didn’t follow it on through. Maybe he didn’t see any reasons just yet to leave Saul’s camp; probably sentiments, people talk, or emotional attachment. Maybe he thought he could do it later. I don’t really know, but I know and believe Jonathan wasn’t supposed to die when he did and in the wrong camp.
But, he did die, why? He didn’t follow on through with his choice by acting on it.

What makes a man are the choices he makes. If you tell me you want to do something and you’ve really chosen that thing, I will take you for your word when I see you doing it, not simply because you said so. A great journey or change in life will not happen simply because you and I wish it so. Change will happen only to those who pursue their desires tenaciously and go for the results they desire.

You can pray today: Lord, I surrender to you tonight – my dreams, my plans, decisions, and life’s choices. I lay them at your feet. Today, I bring them all into agreement with your own choices for me. I receive the grace to see your own path for me and follow as you lead me on this journey, in Jesus name I pray, amen!

By aligning your choice with God’s own, you position yourself for a profitable future. Walking in the path of God’s choice is a winning journey. In fact, it’s a won fight already.
