DAY 62 OF 365: WALKING THROUGH THE WORD DEVOTIONAL

we can’t find help when we don’t first admit we need it. We don’t find direction when we don’t first admit we are lost.

Title: GOD WANTS YOU TO BE REAL WITH HIM

Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me…

Isaiah 29:13

After looking through scriptures and observed how God dealt with people, I realized that one thing was common in His expectation of each person: God wanted each person to be themselves, sincerely, with Him.

You see, God hates hypocrisy. He hates sycophants. He hates it when we are one thing in our hearts, another thing in our talk and in our deeds. Unfortunately, this is where religion has put a lot of people. Most people have been taught to be God-conscious only when they’re in church but once they get out, they go back to being slaves of the system of the world.

But look at David, how he spoke his heart to God. Look at the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. See Moses, everyone who went far with God were people who let God see them the way they were. Most times, we just think that God only uses people who are available, but much more than that, God uses people who open up themselves the way they are on the inside; people who don’t pretend about their faith and state.

In a moment, we will see an instance, how David spoke what he taught and felt in Psalms 73. God didn’t judge or condemn him for doing so. Rather, He waited and then showed him the truth.

You see, we can’t find help when we don’t first admit we need it. We don’t find direction when we don’t first admit we are lost. This is not because we don’t have faith but rather because we do believe that our dependent declaration will open us up to His help.

Peter kept declaring strength until Jesus proved and showed him his weakness. There he was broken after doing what he vowed he’d never do (denying his Master whom he loved). You see, he taught it was all about his resolution. But life isn’t like that. Most times, your resolution will be broken and you won’t feel better. Peter learnt a great lesson that day.

I want you to come to the place where you open up your heart before the Lord and say, ‘Lord I can’t do this without you. I’m breaking down, the pressure is wearing me out. But I know you’re aware and are willing according to your promise to ease my burdens. I need that now. Grant me strength. Grant me ease. Strengthen my hopes again. It’s funny listening to my mind but I know if I do so, nothing will change, so I quit listening to my mind and feelings and I choose to listen to and follow you Lord always. I believe your Word and will follow it. Thank you Lord for doing this, for strengthening me and restoring and healing me. I’m not down because I rest upon you now. Thank you Father, in Jesus name.’

Now, I believe in the sincerity of prayers like this. It declares our dependence on God and not our mental assents or things we think.

God wants you sincere. Be like David. If you’re confused, tell Him. If you’re weak, I am not asking you to tell people (that’s bad confession), rather tell the only Person who understands and can strengthen you. Tell the Lord about it.

Let the weak say I am strong and let the poor say I am rich. All these are to come from one who admits that all his declarations are God’s promises. Not pretending to be, but believing he is exactly what God says he is. This is faith. Declare your heart to the Father, take His word, believe and receive it. Then say it now by faith believing it to work inside of you and fix the anomaly you had told God about.

Blessings

Read Psalms 73 below

[1]Truly God is good to Israel, To such as are pure in heart.

[2]But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; My steps had nearly slipped.
[3]For I was envious of the boastful, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
[4]For there are no pangs in their death, But their strength is firm.
[5]They are not in trouble as other men, Nor are they plagued like other men.
[6]Therefore pride serves as their necklace; Violence covers them like a garment.
[7]Their eyes bulge with abundance; They have more than heart could wish.
[8]They scoff and speak wickedly concerning oppression; They speak loftily.
[9]They set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue walks through the earth.
[10]Therefore his people return here, And waters of a full cup are drained by them.
[11]And they say, “How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?”
[12]Behold, these are the ungodly, Who are always at ease; They increase in riches.
[13]Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain, And washed my hands in innocence.
[14]For all day long I have been plagued, And chastened every morning.
[15]If I had said, “I will speak thus,” Behold, I would have been untrue to the generation of Your children.
[16]When I thought how to understand this, It was too painful for me—
[17]Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then I understood their end.
[18]Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction.
[19]Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.
[20]As a dream when one awakes, So, Lord, when You awake, You shall despise their image.
[21]Thus my heart was grieved, And I was vexed in my mind.
[22]I was so foolish and ignorant; I was like a beast before You.
[23]Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand.
[24]You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory.
[25]Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
[26]My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
[27]For indeed, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all those who desert You for harlotry.
[28]But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.
