DAY 73 OF 365: WALKING THROUGH THE WORD DEVOTIONAL

Title: FOLLOWING AFTER THE CLOUD AND FIRE

So it was always: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night. Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, after that the children of Israel would journey; and in the place where the cloud settled, there the children of Israel would pitch their tents. At the command of the Lord the children of Israel would journey, and at the command of the Lord they would camp; as long as the cloud stayed above the tabernacle they remained encamped. Even when the cloud continued long, many days above the tabernacle, the children of Israel kept the charge of the Lord and did not journey. So it was, when the cloud was above the tabernacle a few days: according to the command of the Lord they would remain encamped, and according to the command of the Lord they would journey.

Numbers 9:16-20

I’ve known this portion of scripture for a very long time now and can describe it when asked but only recently have I just be given a glimpse of its beauty and its light. The children of Israel in the wilderness had the opportunity to travel with the manifest presence of Jehovah as they moved towards the promised land. This may seem light but look at something for a moment.

The Bible says that this Cloud, the Angel of God’s presence, would appear by day and at night, He will reveal Himself as fire. I don’t know all the theological symbols of these two but here is what I want you to see. I pondered and prayed, like I always do with God’s word, that I will walk in the reality of being guided by the Lord in the order of the Cloud by day and the Fire by night (a more practical walk after the Holy Spirit which dwells in me I meant). Here is the light that I received:

“Will you keep walking even if/when your future seems blurry/unclear?
Walking behind the Cloud means you’re going to walk wherever ‘He’ leads trusting Him to take you to fulfilment.
So, will you walk after the Cloud?
Walking after the Cloud means you can only see the Cloud before you and only territories around but not too far ahead. So will you still trust the Cloud and keep walking where He leads? Will you stop when the Cloud stops and only move when it moves, or will you run around like everyone else?”

These Words resonated with my spirit and I understood. Hebrews 10:30 says that the life of the Just is a life of faith. And in Hebrews 11, talking about Abraham, it tells us that Abraham travelled not knowing where he was going, but living in tents simply because of Who he was following. Because of what he saw and sought after, he didn’t have to see it to get there, he only had to follow Him who knew the way there and followed Him all the way.

You may not understand where you are right now, but if you’re following the PILLAR OF CLOUD, you’re not lost. It may look like you don’t even know which point of life you’re at right now and like you’re wasting your time, if the PILLAR OF CLOUD is still before you, wait on and follow Him. It means you’re not alone. It means you’re not on your own. It means you’re in His agenda and under His watch. Nothing can harm you because you’re before His eyes.
Beloved, don’t make this Christian walk as one who has no guide. We have been given the greatest Guide of all (John 16:13). This is God dwelling in you if you’re born again. And just like the Israelites were led by the Cloud and the Fire, He wants to lead you on your life’s journey.

You won’t get lost if you follow Him.

Father, open our eyes to the manifestation of Your Holy Spirit as our Pillar of Cloud by day and our Pillar of Fire by night, and we will be safe, we will not be lost, and we will arrive where we are meant to be. Thank you for blessing us with your everlasting presence, in Jesus name, amen.
