DAY 74 OF 365: WALKING THROUGH THE WORD DEVOTIONAL

Title: RIGHTLY PLACED WORTH

And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

Luke 12:15

Every day on the surface of the earth, there is a particular trend at work. It seems most time that everyone is running, either to something or away from something. This is a figure that is created by our conduct or goals. The challenge though with this is that although many are running here and there, they are actually pursuing “nothing”. And by nothing I mean emptiness. By emptiness, I mean acquisition that is but a passing experience, here now and gone hereafter. Many spend all their days on this Earth running after this only to arrive at the bus-stop of life to realize that they’ve actually stored up nothing despite all they gathered. Can you imagine gathering everything with so much labour only to realize they aren’t worth what you thought?

The world have a standard for measuring the value of men walking its surface, their wealth. I’ve read lines like, “This is Mr. so and so, and he is worth this and that billion.” This may sound good but truly, is there any amount on Earth that is worth the life of a person? Think about this for a moment? Before you go jump out trying to be “worth more” than any person, ponder a bit, will that achievement be your worth?

If it is, that means if they were seized from you, you’d be worthless? God forbid.
Jesus says your possession is not the worth of your life. That’s why He again added, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matt. 16:26

It’s when a person falls sick or is at the verge of death that some realities naturally come to bear. For instance, they just can’t deny that there is no amount that can compare to having their health or life back. They’d even happily give all they have to gain their lives back. Yes, that is how serious it is. But you don’t need to get there to find out. This is here, trying to help you do so.

Step on the brakes a moment there. All the things you want to get and do and have, what’s their value as compared to the state of your soul? God actually did out a prize upon your soul, the Blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. – 1Pet. 1:18-19. With this Blood He bought us back to Himself from the enemy of our souls, Satan. This Blood gave us access to Eternal life with God forever. By this Blood effect, we receive something no money on Earth can ever purchase, eternal life, the God-life.

Now, there is the worth of a man’s life. His secured place under the Precious Blood of Jesus through faith in Jesus Christ. The worth of a man is not what he gathers but in what he has on the inside.
What is on your inside, some temporary achievements that will pass away with your demise here, or the seed of eternal life in Jesus Christ whose fruit you’ll eat for all eternity.
There is a place for all our earthly pursuits. But, never should you put them before what should be most pursued, the salvation of your soul. Don’t ever lose sight of this a day in your life. Because in the pursuit of eternity, there will be the reward of all that is needed for life and godliness, joy and contentment. – Matt. 6:33

Blessings
