Day 146 of 365: Walking Through the Word Devotional

“I have declared the former things from the beginning; they went forth from My mouth, and I caused them to hear it. Suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.

Isa. 48:3

Maybe you feel like Joseph as you read this: having to struggle with betrayal, false allegation, ingratitude, and being forgotten by those you’ve helped, being rewarded by evil for the good you’ve done. Whatever it is you have dealt with or are dealing with right now. It may be wearing you out and forcing you to ask the question, “O God, where are you?”

It can be very difficult to hold yourself together when you’ve been pushed to the wall by circumstances and people, especially where/when God had promised something better. Sometimes, it looks like what has been promised isn’t forthcoming, wasn’t meant for you, or has already passed.

But here is the LORD reminding you. His promises are from the beginning of time itself. The promises of God existed before the problem. Here, I feel like saying your challenge is coming late because the Word that will change it has been sent even before its arrival. Hallelujah! What a God we serve! And not only so, but the Words also are His, not another person. Not a man’s words, so it’s not questionable (Numbers 23:19)

And because they are His, He has the obligation to back it up. And being the God who makes everything beautiful in their own time, He will make it come to pass for you – Eccl. 3:11. And how will it look be like? Suddenly!

Suddenly, there’ll be a return. Suddenly, there’ll be a change of story. Suddenly, the bills will be paid. Suddenly, you’ll be given admission. Suddenly, you’ll be remembered for a testimony. That’s how He does it. That’s how God does it.

Don’t stop believing. Don’t stop waiting for the thing He’s promised you. Don’t give up, give in or give out. Wait for it. Others are quitting, don’t quit. Others are compromising, don’t compromise. This Master of the universe will bring what has been spoken to pass.

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Isa. 55:11

Remember it was sent from the beginning and before the problem came. Stand with it, it will keep you standing until the challenges pass away. Can you ask the Lord for the strength to stay in the place of faith in His already sent Word? Can you ask Him to restore you to the confidence of His ability to suddenly turn your life around?

Suddenly, it will happen, and your years of pain will be swallowed up by the new era of joy until the pain is totally forgotten.

Don’t stop believing it!

“I used to be a lesbian.”

In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?

At age 19, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward Him right in her own bedroom in light of his gospel.

Listen in order to understand. Listen in order to hope. Or listen in order, like Jackie, to be made new.

I do hope this book blesses you. Let me know what you think!
