DAY 57 OF 365: WALKING THROUGH THE WORD DEVOTIONAL

The fire in your spirit isn’t meant to go off anytime. For when there is light in you, your life will have direction, you will walk in the confidence of Christ and in the power of the age to come.

Title: STAY ON, ALWAYS

Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually. Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations. He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the LORD continually.

Leviticus 24:2-4

When the Tabernacle was set up in the days of Moses and Aaron the priest, in the inner part of the Tabernacle was a vail of the Testimony which was before the Lord, separated from the view on all. There, outside those inner parts of this holy sanctuary, God had commanded that there would be lamps burning on and on. These lamps were to represent the presence of the Lord. They would also represent the light which God stands for and that, in Him is no darkness.

Proverbs 20:27 says that, “The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” You could say that the spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord. God uses it to see into man. Our God is called the Father of spirits (Heb. 12:9). This is because we are of Him. We are spirits. Man is a spirit, having a soul and living in a body. We are spirits, eternal beings whom God made to inhabit these bodies. We may look at ourselves and see our bodies (Tabernacles) but He sees a dwelling, an accommodation of a spirit being. No wonder, He calls the believer His Temple (1Cor. 6:19-20, 2Cor. 6:16).

Now, in this bodily temple that God has purchased by the blood of Jesus’ Cross, there is a recreated spirit, alive within it. That spirit is made alive or lightened by the Spirit of life (the Spirit of God) that was imparted into it at the New Birth. We therefore have a task like the priest He has made us: to keep that candle, our spirits, on fire all the time.

The fire in your spirit isn’t meant to go off anytime. For when there is light in you, your life will have direction, you will walk in the confidence of Christ and in the power of the age to come. We are surrounded with darkness today and must therefore walk in the spirit (the light, the fire).

Through meditation on the Word, spending time with the Word of God and observing to practice what the scriptures say, a man is keeping himself in light. Don’t accept the excuse of being busy to study, to pray or to meditate on the scriptures. It is the devil’s trap.

As we keep ourselves lightened through those, we can be sure to have light in the dark hours of life and be sure to find our way when darkness envelopes our world.

Light your candle today. Stay on, in the name of Jesus. You are God’s temple and this Temple needs to have its candle on in order for it to remain active.
