Title: A GUIDE TO PURPOSE- 3
Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name.” But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.
Jeremiah 20:9
Some years back, I wasn’t doing what I’m doing today. Someone may say, ‘You are better off, after all, God showed you what He wanted you to do for Him early and He did it clearly, but I’m not finding mine easy.” This might be easy and true to say. I did find out some of God’s intention for my existence quite early, but to say I have a full grasp of God’s purpose for my life would be a lie.
Something unique I’ve learned over the years is this: when God formed you, He already chose you for His pleasure even before you were born. Your being born was like a first commission to the task God already had at heart. The thing is that many of us get to the scene of our assignment and don’t know the next thing to do. This season, you’re coming out of this, in Jesus name, amen.
How does every soul find His intention for life? See our opening text. Jeremiah calls it FIRE IN MY BONES. He didn’t have anything better to describe it except FIRE in his bones. This fire is a product of a discovery, an encounter with the Maker. Once upon a time, this man with fire in His bones called himself ‘a child’. (Jer. 1:6). He didn’t know or see how his life could afford any value or effect on Earth and he called himself a child who couldn’t speak. Do you remember another man with this similar excuse? Yes, Moses.- Exod. 3:11-12
These men felt just like you. They had a heart for things they couldn’t explain. Moses had a heart to see his people free. He thought that was his own compassion or something else, not knowing it was his destiny already tugging at him unconsciously. Then God beckoned on him with an encounter in Exod. 3.
Jeremiah also had a yearning to see his people return to their God in the midst of idolatry and corruption in the system. He had a heart for justice. He thought he was just acting. Not knowing that this was the mission beckoning on him to come up thither. These men were afraid to accept the possibility of what was pulling them, until they met their Maker in a unique encounter.
Remember, only your Maker can tell your make-up. In the steps of purpose, you start with an experience of Him. He could use a strong fire in your bone to drive you consistently in one direction and every time you go there, doors open, things work, you produce result, lives are imparted and you’re ultimately fulfilled whether with or without reward or payment. He may also use visions, dreams and goals to stir you in that direction. Whatever it is, you have to seek it by seeking Him.
Everything is in your Maker. Moses found his at the encounter with the burning bush and he returned a different man. Jeremiah experienced his when God appeared to him and spoke with him, and he returned with fire in his bones.
Can you dedicate yourself to God tonight and pray this prayer: Father, I refuse to leave this world without fulfilling what you’ve ordained me for. Whether as a doctor, politician, business man, whatever way and place, Father, reveal my place, my work, my ultimate assignment for which I’ve been anointed to me. Cause me to understand where and what you’re pointing me towards and enable me to follow it for my fulfilment as your instrument, an extension of you for both authority and impart on the earth in this time of life, in Jesus name, amen.
